A whole bucketful of awesome. |
This page is, in fact, an overflowing bucketful of awesome, but I didn't want to brag too much. |
My mother and me, ca. 1974.
Not sure if I was living with her at that moment or not - ‘74 was one of the earlier points in our lifelong unraveling, during which I lived alternately with her, my dad, grandparents, and/or miscellaneous hippies. Here, I am smiling as unreservedly as possible, while she is… stoic, neither smiling nor frowning. (I know this look well.)
All our history and our most recent several years of estrangement aside, I still love this picture for its literal semblance of ‘rootedness.’ There is hope here, which I can appreciate regardless of all that happened later to crush and revive (and crush again, and revive again…) that hope.
Also: OMG, awesome ’70s pants.
Also needs to be said: WHAT AN AMAZING LITTLE GIRL! Your smile screams awesome.
